Sound Design Demo Reel
Hello! My name is Janine and here is my Demo Reel for Portfolio II
It has been a journey, but isn't that what it's all about? I am in awe of the work that Sound Designers do. It is not for the faint of heart. It requires diligence, attention to detail, self discipline and a totally open and creative mind. I have gained an invaluable amount of knowledge through this course and am a better musician for it.
Over the course of four weeks, I designed assets for game play. Week one held the task of designing sound assets for two game levels, a Power Up asset and sound effects for a Button, a Switch and a Lever. I had to get very creative because these assets were to be no longer than one second. I referred back to my Foley Class and recorded some objects around the house. I then imported my recordings into ProTools and went to work. Using the skills developed in my Sequencing Technology and Recording Principles course, I edited the files to match the game play.
In week two I created assets for the games ambience. In designing the background for the game play, I learned how to layer sounds to create a more realistic player environment. I also created sound for three inherently different doors and used the technique of layering sounds to achieve a full sounding asset.
In creating these assets, I was introduced to Wwise, an application that supports sound design editing and upload. It builds a bridge to the video game and allows you to upload your audio files and hear them in real time in the video game. Week three held more fun with editing audio loops and one shots for portals. This was a challenge for me because this was a mix of both looped audio and one shot audio.
The final week, week four, has been a culmination of all the work done to create audio assets for game play. I learned to check the audio in game (constantly), redesign the asset if need be and re-upload the asset into the game. The final product is rewarding! I hope you enjoy!
